Students Recycling

 

Students at Shelby High School, Shelby Middle, and Marion Elementary competed for awards last year. A grant through Student for Recycling is now being used to place recycling dumpsters at Shelby area schools

Congratulations to our students for reducing waste on campuses.

ScottsMiracle-Gro and KAB have enlisted the National Gardening Association, the originators of National Garden Month, as well as Scholastic, the global children’s publishing, education and media company, to create and distribute 30 Days of Green calendars to 81,000 4th – 6th grade classrooms.

 

What is Crape (or Crepe) Murder?

"If twigs and branches are thicker than a pencil, they should not be tipped. Cutting them off will cause a lump of scars to form. After the cut heals, an unsightly cluster of small twigs will sprout from the knot of scars, or the branch will die. So, rather than tip these branches, you should remove them completely. Don’t be a crape murderer!"


Please join us at 11 a.m. on Friday March 11 during the Arbor Day festivities to solve the "Great Crape Murder Mystery". How you can avoid contributing to this "copy-cat" crime! A proper Crape Myrtle pruning demonstration will be given by Skip Warrick of Shelby Nursery and Don Neff of Neff Tree Service. The tree used (donated by Shelby Nursery) will later be donated to and planted at a local elementary school.

Proper pruning, selecting for one or more main "trunks", will result in beautiful, natural "shrubs" or small trees.
